Let's Play Some Racing Games

There is nothing quite like sitting in front of your television as you beat your opponents in a 4 player race of Mario Kart 64.  Throughout the history of video games, racing games have enabled us to do just that. Coming up with a list of the top 10 best racing games of all time would only prove difficult just for the sheer number of games that would qualify. Our rundown of 10 of the best racing games may speak from various experiences, but one thing is for sure: each of these games has graced gamers of varying generations.

10, Colin McRae: DiRT 2 (Sony PlayStation 3)

Perhaps the only game in this list that features rally racing, Colin McRae: DiRT 2 offers breathtaking experiences that simulate the wild world of rally cars. Key to the action-pumping properties of DiRT 2 is its visuals, which provide realistic varieties of rally wear and tear as you endeavor to make the most out of it.

9, Blur (PC, Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360)

Blur Protect My CarBlur might be considered as a more realistic and less-outrageous version of Mario Kart, using real-life licensed cars of course. With several chances of traversing through complicated tracks with power-ups along the way, Blur brings forth an entirely unique way of enjoying Mario Kart-like gameplay. Just think of homing missiles alongside mind-boggling Ambassador plans choices, if you are looking to relive Blur

8, Shift 2: Unleashed (PC, Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360)

Shift 2 Protect My CarProviding perhaps the most realistic driving experience of its time, Shift 2: Unleashed allows you to experience driving at its most real even when you are just playing through your console. With a fantastic range of models to choose from, Shift 2: Unleashed allows you to take your time as you enjoy the breathtaking experience of playing it behind its virtual windshield, from where the game produces splendid views from the driver’s seat.

7, Need for Speed: Underground 2 (PC, Sony PlayStation 2, Microsoft Xbox)

Need For Speed Underground Protect My CarElectronic Arts (EA) has perhaps the best racing game it has ever released in Need for Speed: Underground 2. Available across three platforms Need for Speed: Underground 2 boasts an impressive lineup of cars and graphics that are ahead of its time. Add to that music tracks from the likes of Queens of the Stone Age and Snoop Dogg, and you have a game that gives you the real feel of the mean urban streets.

6, Daytona USA (PC, Arcade, Sega Saturn)

Daytona USA PRotect My CarArcade joints have long been favorite haunts of gamers, and what another racing game has been more successful in attracting throngs of car enthusiasts early in the day than Daytona USA? Derived from America’s love affair with stock racing, Daytona USA has brought to the fore the tradition of the arcade-style four-way racing game. The game’s retro soundtrack is great enough to transport gamers of old back to memory lane, but it is the 3D graphics that perhaps best exemplify the game’s old-school appeal.

5, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing (PC, Mobile, Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360)

Protect My Car Blog Sonic Sega All Star Racing THE 10 BEST RACING GAMES OF ALL TIMEAgain, the Mario Kart’s enduring appeal has led to the creation of similarly-inspired collectives such as the people behind Sonic & SEGA All-Starts Racing. Featuring different playable SEGA characters, Sonic & SEGA All-Starts Racing provides great thrill courtesy of its multiplayer option, impeccable control, and unlockable characters and items that are both thrilling and abundant.

4, Forza Horizon 3 (PC, Xbox One)

A lot of times, the extent to which racing games can get realistic is undermined by some movements that tend to defy physics. Enter the Forza Horizon 3 – another in several of Forza’s line of driving simulation games that provides accurate physics alongside stupendous handling properties. Graphics-wise, gamers have been stunned by the Forza Horizon’s gameplay, certainly making it among the most memorable of its kind.

3, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo Switch)

Mario KArt Protect My Car BlogAs a veteran of video games, Mario is not new to any 'best of' lists. With its continuously-appealing roster of tracks and modifications, Nintendo is keeping Mario Kart relevant, and just like playing Super Mario on racing mode, Mario Kart has always had the ability to entertain millions of gamers through the sheer challenges brought by its insane manner of entertaining gamers and the audience alike. Adrenaline rushes are common among players who traverse any of the Rainbow Road tracks or other equally-challenging settings. I was torn between Mario Kart Wii or Mario Kart 8 on the Switch. I decided to go for Mario Kart 8, for its intuitive anti-gravity driving features and amazing online play.

2, Gran Turismo 5 (Sony PlayStation 3)
